Raw Processing
Key points
Section titled “Key points”- Opening a RAW file launches the Develop Persona, a dedicated workspace for initial adjustments.
- Basic panel tools include exposure, black point, brightness, contrast, clarity, saturation and vibrance.
- White balance can be set with the sliders or the white balance tool, correcting for temperature and tint.
- Lens panel applies automatic corrections from metadata, with options for distortion, rotation, chromatic aberration and vignetting.
- Detail panel provides noise reduction and sharpening – colour noise is reduced by default.
- Overlays allow selective adjustments with brushes or gradients, similar to filters in traditional photography.
- Split and mirror view modes help compare before and after edits before developing into the main Photo Persona.

Exercise
Section titled “Exercise”- Take a RAW file that you have already opened and process it using Affinity Photo 2.
- Start with the leftmost tab ‘Basic’ & work from top to bottom, seeing the effect of each slider, then move to the next tab ‘Lens’ and continue left to right, top to bottom.
- Note that double clicking the selector circle on a slider will reset it to default, you can also use the reset icon at the top right of any pane. So go wild, experiment, you can undo anything.
